OpenAI’s Abilene Compute Coup
OpenAI secured $11.6 billion in funding to expand its Abilene, Texas, data center from two to eight buildings, each slated to host up to 50,000 Nvidia Blackwell processors, marking a strategic bid to build independent AI infrastructure and curb reliance on Microsoft’s cloud services.
The complex, backed by JPMorgan and other investors, is expected to launch in 2026, underscoring OpenAI’s long-term “Stargate” infrastructure vision.
